Verzoe partners with Switch2Zero: A Greener Step for Cricket (and our conscience)

Verzoe is excited to announce our partnership with Switch2zero, a pioneer in sustainable technology solutions. We're incorporating tree planting into every single purchase on our platform. As a completely bootstrapped company without deep pockets, we wanted to take baby steps to a greener future and Switch2zero offered us the chance to make a choice that is pragmatic, but nevertheless a step in the right direction.

Polyester: The (Reluctant) King of Sports Apparel

First, a confession: Almost all of our teamwear is made from polyester. Why? Because it’s tough, reliable, wicks away sweat, keeps its colour, doesn’t shrink, and survives more washes than most fabrics. It’s the reason your club kit still looks sharp after a year of sliding, diving, and questionable laundry skills. Gentle reminder here to wash your cricket whites separately, with other whites or light colours.

The Polyester Problem

Polyester is a plastic, and when your kit finally retires, it’s likely headed for landfill, where it’ll outlast most cricket careers (and possibly a few cricket grounds). We’re painfully aware that polyester production is energy-hungry and that each wash can shed microplastics into our waterways. Not exactly the legacy we want to leave.

Why Not Just Switch to Something Greener?

If only it were that simple! As a small, bootstrapped brand, we don’t have the muscle to demand custom eco-fabrics from manufacturers, nor the volume to join big recycling schemes. Apparently, “I’ll take two rolls of recycled fabric and a side of carbon neutrality” isn’t a standard order. We’re committed to affordable, quality kit for grassroots cricket—so while we dream big, we have to act pragmatically.

Enter Switch2Zero: Planting Trees, Not Excuses

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our partnership with Switch2Zero. We'll plant trees through their rigorously vetted, independently certified projects. No greenwashing here —just honest, incremental change, rooted (pun intended) in transparency.

Now, before anyone accuses us of thinking a sapling will instantly erase your carbon footprint: we know trees take time to grow, and that real impact happens over years. But every tree helps—restoring habitats, supporting communities, and, yes, eventually soaking up CO₂.

So, next time you pull on your Verzoe shirt, know you’re not just playing for your team but you've helped us make a step in the right direction.
